About Panther

Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Founder: Phelon & Moore (Joah Carver Phelon and Richard Moore)
Best Known For: Sloper-engine singles and dignified British roadsters

Company History

Under the Panther badge, Phelon & Moore built distinctive ‘sloper’ singles—forward-canted engines that lowered the center of gravity and gave bikes their unmistakable stance. From the interwar years into the 1960s, Panthers carried sidecars, toured the isles, and served as dependable transport for riders who valued torque and simplicity over revs. The machines’ unhurried charisma—long strokes, gentle thump, and steady handling—made them favorites of practical motorcyclists. As British industry contracted and Japanese performance surged, P&M closed, but Panthers endure in marque clubs where spares, lore, and mechanical sympathy keep them alive. Historically, Panther represents a particularly British combination of engineering logic and aesthetic restraint: bikes that make calm progress feel like the natural rhythm of the road.
