Motorcycle VIN Lookup
Decode any bike’s 17-character VIN to confirm year, make, model, engine, and potential title brands, recalls, and more—before you buy, sell, insure, or register.
Get VIN information by Motorcycle identification number using our free VIN Decoder service
How it works
- Find the VIN on the bike (see spots below) or on your title/registration.
- Paste the 17-character code (no spaces; letters I, O, Q are not used).
- Get an instant decode with core specs. Optional full reports can surface title brands, odometer issues, recalls, and auction history (when available).
What you’ll learn
- Make, model, trim, model year, body type
- Engine displacement/configuration, fuel type
- Production country/plant, build sequence
- Factory options (when encoded)
- Open safety recalls and service bulletins (if available)
- Title brands (salvage/rebuilt/flood), lien/theft flags, odometer anomalies (in full reports)
Tip: Always combine a VIN check with a mechanic inspection and a test ride.
Where to find the VIN on a motorcycle
- Steering neck / headstock (right side, stamped on frame)
- Frame rail under the tank or near the rider’s right knee
- Engine case (engine number is separate from VIN, but useful)
- Title, registration, or insurance card
- Manufacturer label on the frame (near head tube)
VIN basics (quick guide)
- Modern bikes use a 17-character VIN (since 1981).
- Characters 1–3: WMI (manufacturer/country)
- 4–9: VDS (model/engine/body, check digit)
- 10–17: VIS (model year, plant, serial)
- No I, O, Q—they’re excluded to avoid confusion with 1 and 0.
