About Penton
Company History
John Penton wanted lighter, more durable enduro bikes for American terrain. Partnering with KTM (then a small Austrian maker), he specified frames, suspension, and engines that matched the needs of woods racing—quick steering, tractable power, and reliability measured in race finishes. The Penton name on tanks introduced thousands of riders to European off-road handling and laid the path for KTM’s ascent in North America. Penton also championed rider support and parts availability, understanding that winning hearts meant keeping bikes running between events. Historically, Penton is a hinge in off-road history: a dealer, racer, and product manager rolled into one, proving that focused specification and support could change how and what America raced. The orange empire that followed still reflects those lessons.
